In 1995, Elle Woods is living a 16-year-old's dream with the perfect plan to dominate her junior year in Bel-Air. But her world turns upside down when her parents move her to a new city far away from anything that feels comfortable.

When the school bully threatens to spread a rumour about Elle's crush, Elle pretends to like someone else to hide her true feelings. However, her attempt is thwarted by an embarrassing fashion faux pas.

Elle gets closer to escaping her current situation, but to do so, she must throw her school's first-ever homecoming. When her controlling nature ostracises her from her classmates, Elle learns to delegate and leave room for others to shine.

After suspecting a conspiracy is afoot, Elle and her friends get detention to gain access to school records to prove their case. The proximity heightens her romantic tensions with her crush and exposes a past relationship that had been kept.
